 | 06:52 pm - Hi I occasionally trim my friends list a bit. It might include people who have been inactive for a really long time; if you eventually decide to come back, happen to see this post, and want to be friends again, leave a comment.
If you have an icons-only journal and found your way here, you may want to go to nani_gifs instead of this LJ.

 | 09:47 pm I need to look for some lentil recipes! I've come to realize lately how good they taste. They're also great for throwing into hearth ashes, for raggedy maidens to sift through. Current Mood: lentilesque

 | 09:04 am - Seasonal tunes My last entry had to do with radio-play Christmas music I don't like. To turn the tables toward positive, here's a list of Christmas albums and songs I love.
Jingle All The Way - The Crash Test Dummies. Kind of an oddity, with that deep voice, but unusual renditions of songs - like their very evil version of "Jingle Bells."
Christmas With The Fab Four two-disc set. Christmas songs as if The Beatles had done them. I'm not into tribute bands, but this one did such a good job with mishmashing lyrics and music together. I'm rolling on the floor, crying from laughing every time.
A Charlie Brown Christmas - The Vince Guaraldi Trio.
"Christmas Song" - Stars. It's dramatic and political, a bit heavy for my usual holiday taste, but I love these guys.
"Do They Know It's Christmas?" - Band Aid. Back in 1984, my sister and I listened to the vinyl single about 8000 consecutive times in a row.
Songs For Christmas - Sufjan Stevens. Crams everything soothing, pensive, whirly, fun, wonder-filled, and then some in several discs.
Comfort & Joy and Rockapella Christmas - Rockapella. I love these guys, they put on really fun live Christmas shows. They also do the Carmen San Diego theme every time.
"Winter Wonderland" - the versions by Cocteau Twins and The Eurythmics. Snow + Synth = Yeah!!!
Complete Coumbia Christmas Recordings - Gene Autrey
"Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" - Judy Garland
Joyeux Mutato - Mark Mothersbaugh. I have to be in a certain mood for this one, but it's got tinkly keyboard sounds, and I love that.
Mistletoe & Wine - Mediaeval Baebes. Gives my Christmas medieval style without the generic Celtic harp stuff they sell at K-Mart. (I secretly kind of like that too, but can only handle two songs at a time, at best.)
"Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" - Slade
'Tis The Season For Los Straitjackets - Los Straitjackets. Surf guitar!
Carols & Capers and A Tapestry of Carols - Maddy Prior & The Carnival Band. Listening to these make me think of the feast of the Ghost of Christmas Present.
I have 400+ Christmas songs on iTunes. I'll need them because with all the renovation/painting still going on at the house right now, we're not setting up a Christmas tree here this year.

 | 11:58 pm - Damn you, Chocolate Rain! Get out of my head. So... Tay Zonday, hey. ???
I hate this midnight feeling of being sleepy and tired yet wanting to move furniture around and organize things. That's what I get for drinking a full caffeine iced coffee all afternoon.
Current Music: CHOCOLATE RAAAIIINNNN

 | 12:50 am - "The Lovely Bones" I recently finished reading an amazing story - The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. It was recommended to me by a friend and in turn I recommend it to everyone else. For an entire week, I simply could not put this book down. Read it every spare moment I had and bore under-eye circles for days, having stayed up late nights reading. Really, if you have the chance to pick the book up, do. It's an unusual, dark, intense story... I don't normally cry reading books but this one left me emotionally drained, it had such an impact on me.
I'm chasing that book with "Matilda" by Roald Dahl because I need something light-hearted after that. Another recommendation - don't watch The Bridge To Terabithia immediately after ending "The Lovely Bones." I was a wreck. Current Mood: need bed!
